Histori

The Reunion Arena was completed in 1980 at a cost of US $ 27 million. Named for the early 19th century commune, La Reunion. The Reunion Arena is famous for the last two games: it is the last NBA or NHL arena to be built without a luxury suite, and it is the last NHL arena that still uses the American Signs and Indicators scoreboard (though not the last in the NBA - see Charlotte Coliseum). Messagoard color matrix on the scoreboard was replaced in 1991 with a Sony Jumbotron video screen.

Reunion Arena also hosted the WCT Tennis Tournament in the 1980s, including the Virginia Slims Invitational Tournament. Due to scheduling conflicts in 1984, the WCT Tennis Tournament forced the Dallas Mavericks to play Game 5 of their first playoff series at Moody Coliseum, against the Seattle SuperSonics. While Southern Methodist University competed in the Southwest Conference, the Reunion Arena was known by Razorbacks University of Arkansas fans, such as Barnhill South, due to the large followers of Arkansas fans away from home; Barnhill Arena was home to all UA matches until 1993. Reunion Arena hosted Southwest Region basketball tournaments in the 1980s and 1990s, as well as the 1986 NCAA Final.

Prominent figures

In 1994, US President Bill Clinton visited the arena to watch the University of Arkansas basketball team play at the NCAA Tournament.

Use Unrelated to Sports

In late 2005, the Dallas Convention Center and convention was used as Dallas's primary shelter for Hurricane Katrina evacuation.

Events

It features 30,000 ftÃ,² (2,790Ã,²Ã,²) floor space and has a large line of sight, making it ideal for a number of events and games, including many high school graduations. Although The Who was promoted as the first concert in Reunion on July 2, 1980, the first musical performance to appear on the scene was P-Funk (toured with SHOWCO sounds and lights) on May 9, 1980. Two other concerts were played there. end of June, 1980: Foghat and Pat Travers on June 25; and Ted Nugent, Scorpions, and Def Leppard on June 26th. The rock band Journey played three consecutive performances in the arena in July 1983, and again in December 1986. Van Halen played three shows in June 1984, Judas Priest played June 27, 1986 recording the entire show which parts can be found on the album < i> Priest... Live! . Full concert concerts were also released. Pink Floyd played three consecutive shows in Reunion in November 1987. Singing pop singer Whitney Houston played two sold-out concerts in Reunion in September 1987. Frank Sinatra made a live concert on October 24, 1987 which was recorded and released in 2018 as part of Album < i> Standing Room Only .

Country music superstar Garth Brooks filmed his first special television, This Is Garth Brooks , in the arena for two sold-out concerts in September 1991. The concert became important after Brooks and guitarist Ty England brought two guitars together, same. and destroy them on stage. Another country music star, Shania Twain, once performed Come On Over Tour in the arena on 12 September 1998 and filmed in her first DVD released by Shania Twain Live.

The video for Scorpions 'Still Loving You' was filmed there, and in 1985 MÃÆ'¶tley CrÃÆ'¼e filmed the video for the song Home Sweet Home there as well.

The reunion was also a place that was often used by the World Class Championship Wrestling in the 1980s, where the organization held many, if not all two-month Star Wars events.

Host team

Arena was the home of the Dallas Mavericks from 1980 to 2001 and the Dallas Stars from 1993 to 2001. Both teams moved to American Airlines Center in 2001. Desperados Football Team Arena Dallas used the arena for the 2003 season but eventually returned to the American Airlines Center.

The full-time sports tenant left in the arena is MISL Dallas Sidekicks, but the club was inactive after the fall of 2004.

Closing and unloading

After being voted unanimously by the Dallas City Council, the Reunion Arena officially closed on 30 June 2008. In August 2008, the council said it would explode the arena if it could find an entity willing to pay the bill. The council expects the explosion to be part of a movie scene with a film company that took tabs to blast it. When no filmmaker is interested, the city decides to destroy it using another method, a process that takes several months.

The demolition was officially completed on November 17, 2009 and the site was fully cleaned at the end of the year. Post-demolition, this site is not widely used. In 2011, Prince will be performing as part of the Super Bowl XLV celebration, but the show was canceled due to bad weather. And in September 2012, Cirque du Soleil KoozÃÆ'  ¥ happened here. Until October 2013, nearby parking garages remain standing and there are no plans for construction on the site.
