Black Star is a debut perfume by French-Canadian singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne. This line includes, in addition to 10ml, 15ml, 30ml, 50ml and 100ml eau de perfume, bath gel, body lotion, and spray deodorant. Mini Shower Gel comes exclusively with Black Star gift packages available in the UK, and in German/Dutch giftset, 50ml body lotion is also included.
The fragrance was announced through Lavigne's official website on March 7, 2009. The fragrance contains pink hibiscus records, black plum and dark chocolate. It has been released in several European countries including the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, Finland, England and Denmark. Black Star was launched in the United States on August 15, specialized in Kohl's. Black Star has been released in Canada, at Shoppers Drug Mart. Black Star has also been released in Australia, available on Myer.
In some stores, which vary from country and shop, Black Star is sold with gifts, including bracelets, t-shirts, speakers, compact mirrors, and four different kinds of bags. It's also a gift on the official website.
Three notes of perfume are: Top notes: green pears, pink hibiscus flowers. Middle notes: black plum. Base notes: dark chocolate.

5 giftets from the Black Star perfume range have been released to date. In Germany and the Netherlands, EDP 15ml comes with 50ml Body Lotion and 50ml Showergel. In the UK, EDP 30ml comes with a 50ml Body Lotion, and exclusive handbags. In the United States there are two different gifts, one with EDP 15ml and 100ml EDP, and another with 50ml EDP and a set of Black Star speakers. Giftset featuring EDP and 200ml Body Lotion are also taken out.

Lavigne held an exclusive launch party for the Black Star in London on March 17, 2009. Several journalists were present, and three Dutch fans were invited to attend as well. He premiered the Black Star bottle on the show, and has a Abbey Dawn angle as well. In the US promotional events are arranged in New York for journalists. Lavigne was absent, although she recorded some of the video messages that were displayed.
Other promotional items are shipped to international stores, including instagram posters, bottle tester, frangener samples, and other displays.
Commercial The ad for Black Star was directed by Billie Woodruff and filmed in Los Angeles. It opens with Lavigne in a Black Star bottle, with pinkish fog swirling and glitter in the air. He saw a black star floating in the air, jumping up and grabbing it, and it turned into a Black Star bottle. He opened the bottle and sprayed perfume into his body, then threw the bottle into the camera, offered it to us. In some commercial countries it is shortened and spraying is cut. Lavigne stated that she is very happy to record video. The dress she wore was a 1980s prom dress. Lavigne added tutu to the skirt and a studded belt around her waist. To accompany the ad, Lavigne needs a short theme song. The result is the song Black Star , compiled by Lavigne at a Malaysian hotel during the tour, and produced by her ex-husband Deryck Whibley. Jingle was eventually expanded to a brief introduction to his fourth studio album, Goodbye Lullaby, which later described Rolling Stone as "a subtle lullaby that turns epic with tinkling like a Coldplay-like piano and a soaring string."

Critical reception
Black Star received mixed reviews. Now The Smell It says the scent was "nothing more as 'edgy' as intended, but managed to capture Avril Lavigne's image despite (or because) the facts." ShopGala praised the aroma as "a great gift for a young girl or Avril fan." The fragrance is called "a really energetic aroma." TeenToday notes that with the scent, "Avril's mini punk moves into a more feminine world... the aroma of celebrity... shows that at the age of 24 years he finally leaves his heavy days." It's called "ideal for summer." Dave Lackie (editor of Cosmetics magazine) says that "Black Star" opens with pear bursts, but quickly dries into a sweet floral tone that has a faint synthetic smell. "Nathalie Atkinson of the National Post says that" it's supposed to be all gloomy and stuffy, with dark fruits and dark chocolate but really, that's as mainstream as punk mall, "but she suggested that" teenage kids will love it. Awards
In May 2010, Lavigne stated through her official website that Black Star has been nominated for the FiFi award in the "Fragrance of the Year" category Women's Popular Appeal.
Later in the same month, Lavigne also stated that the fragrance has won the award for "Best Fragrance" from the Cosmetic Woman Executive.
