Recording and production

After the record label B-Unique and Polydor failed to release an earlier album This Is A Fix on time, or promote it because both labels were reported to fall in bands making the decision to end their 5 album deal. After bids from various record labels the band finally decided to make their own record label Armored Records give the band a complete creative control, but the ability to reach a mass audience with EMI was contracted to distribute the album. After the last tour in November 2008, the band returned to the studio, just 4 months after the release of their album This Is A Fix.

Throughout the remainder of 2008, and as of November 2009 the band worked from their Cardiff recording studio on new material, working on about 20 ideas, which ultimately reduced too many 11 album tracks and unknown b-side numbers. Following the writing and demoing stages, the band worked with Richard Jackson, who produced a number of songs on both previous recordings. Not Accepted Anywhere and This Is A Fix, described working with Richard as he 'almost became the fifth member of The Automatic.' The album was finally recorded with Richard Jackson and Stephen Davies at Warwick Hall Studios in Cardiff, and then mixed at Buffalo Studios and Machine Rooms in Cardiff. In the studio the band works with Nathan Stone and Carly Worsfold on "Run & amp; Hide" and "High Time" tracks, which provide string sections.

The lyrical themes

In an interview with Bedfordshire on Sunday vocalist & amp; Bassist Rob Hawkins sums up the lyrical construction of all three albums by The Automatic; with Not Accepted Anywhere being about personal experience and growing up, This Is A Fix is largely based on news and world events, while Tear the Signs Down is more about storytelling. Lyrically Tear the Signs Down is far more focused than This Is A Fix by Paul Mullen. The lyrics are mostly written by Rob Hawkins and Paul Mullen, but Iwan Griffiths and James Frost also have input if the lyrics do not fit the four pairs of bands.

Rob and Paul, track by track through Tear the Signs Down for American site randomville.com, described the lyrical content of each song on March 2, 2010. The main song "Insides" is described by Paul Mullen as; "the end of the relationship and the inability to overcome that fact.Reading the anger and tension so that you are ready and ready to destroy and destroy", and also recorded as very different for whatever band previously produced. The lyrics in the first single "Interstate" reflect American culture - taken from the band's record experience of half the previous record This Is A Fix in West Hollywood, California with Butch Walker, the song commented on the American attitude described by Paul Mullen as " contagious "sweet dude" their attitude is a great attribute, whatever it is, anything can happen ", he also recorded the passage of the verse" Interstate "; "every band is allowed a song where they go" na na na "and" oh yes "this is ours" and that they will not do it again. "Can not to Saved" was written by Rob Hawkins and about paranoia, described by Rob as' "You know, like in summer when everyone looks restless and feels like it could have started for no reason"

The lyrics of "List" tell how things need to be wrong sometimes to finally succeed, "It's about experiencing your own lack of interest in the world, about people lying to you to protect you, but protecting you from what? about opening your eyes You can say "," List "then leads instrumently into the second single" Run & amp; Hide "described by Paul Mullen as " feeling, moment to become self conscious also let yourself on the way to life can be all about seizing the moment without having any guarantees, pushing through all self-doubt and seeing what happens ", the same" High Time "written by Mullen is about lack of motivation; "it's about trying it. Whatever it is instead of extinguishing it, just doing it" and "Tear It Down" - the last song written and recorded to tear the Signs is about "pulling yourself out from a bad situation, and shaping the things you want, that's the last year for us, a process of dealing with reality, dealing with them and taking over responsibility. "

"Sweat Heat Noise" - sung by Rob is about live band hiatus after touring with previous album This Is A Fix in 2008; "it's an optimistic song, it's also about the frustration of waiting for that opportunity to prove yourself again" . The lyrics to "Race to the Heart of the Sun" come from Rob; "I got a revelation when I fell asleep one night, that all human progress is a series of collisions - from caves that use clubs as a tool, for sex, to fight to particle accelerators, to cook everything." That's what this song is about ". Paul noted that the lyrics for "Can I Take You Home" came from experience in the Egyptian Pyramids, where he saw a German woman whom he had eye contact for a while. "Something Else" is music and the lyrics nod to the band's influence.

Style

Sobeklah Signs Down is closer to the band's debut album style Not Accepted Anywhere, with the use of more synthesizers and three vocal parts from Robin Hawkins, James Frost and Paul Mullen. The album will use the band's trademark pop hook, with great choruses, while retaining the rock edge band, it's also the band's most diverse record, compared to Soulwax and The Knife. The first single "Interstate" bridges between This Is A Fix and Tear the Signs Down, with lyrics referring to recordings of previous overseas albums in the United States, the overall record has also been described as the most diverse. Single "Run & amp; Hide" along with "High Time" and two interlude additional string instrumental features.

Release

First track of Tear the Signs Down; "Something Else" was previewed on YouTube and the band's official website on August 6, 2009 A few months later the album's release date was set for February 15, 2010 with the announcement of the first single "Interstate" on November 3rd, 2009, along with the titled album "Tear The Signs Down" as well as the first radio play "Interstate" and the free download of the bonus song album "Something Else". On Soccer AM, the band changed the release of the album to March 8, 2010. Chuff Media's promotional company confirmed that the album will be released on March 8, with the second single "Run & amp; Hide" a week earlier on March 1, 2010. The album leaked onto the internet at February 20, 2010, more than 2 weeks before the release date.

The album was released digitally worldwide, with the exception of the United States on April 12, 2010, the physical release is currently being arranged, as released in the United States, under the name The Automatic after the band was cleared to use the title - unlike in their first album Not Accepted Anywhere where they are forced to release music under the title The Automatic Automatic.

Apart from B-Unique

In 2005 the band was given a five-album recording contract with B-Unique Records, distributed by Columbia Records in the United States and Polydor Records elsewhere. With the release of their second album This is an Improvement, Alex Pennie's departure and the arrival of Paul Mullen the band's voice has changed, which is something B-Unique is not entirely happy with, as well as this record label B-Unique and Polydor should have fallen towards this. This is a Fix that accepts almost any promotion.

You make one year of your life making a recording, so the label does not tell anyone it's released or distributes it. It was very frustrating - we had a complicated deal in which we signed a contract with B-Unique but released via Polydor. We suspect that both parties involved fell, and we are the child of the divorce, so to speak.

- Rob Hawkins

The split itself occurred in 2009, with the band releasing a release plan for a single "Magazine" instead of heading into the studio to work on their third album. After parting ways with Polydor and B-Unique, the band had several offers from other record labels but declined with the vision of setting up their own record label, to have full creative control over the music they would release on the next record label. Instead of signing a recording contract, the band chose an agreement with EMI to distribute Tear the Signs Down, labeled no creative controls, and set up their own record label, Armored Records.

Reception

The third album Automatic received negative and positive critical feedback. The Newbound of Rock Sound magazine held high praise for the album, ranking 9/10; praised the band's development as a musician depicting the lyrical content of Tear the Signs Down as a "feeling of excitement, full of excitement and touch" and " Signs Down will definitely stand out as one of Britain's best records of the year. Steve Beebee from Kerrang magazine notes "a slick compromise between the 2006 pop-rock debut Not Accepted Anywhere and Rowdy, Foo Fighters-Inspired in 2008 It Is Improved ", equating Paul Mullen's vocals with Brian Molko's words from Placebo, while not liking the band" "trying to become arty" on the "High Time" track, but ultimately praising the band's determination to > "keeps growing" .

"Is it a monster, is it a monster? No, it's just the return of a rather useless Welsh band" is the opening for Nick Mitchell from Scottish magazine The Skinny review Tear the Signs Down, calling record "emigrated" punk, indie lobotomised, [and] painted white " and rated it one in 5 stars. Sputnikmusic advisor, Davey Boy is also very negative; "There's really not much more to say about Tear The Signs Down... It's so disappointing and uninteresting" calling it the most forgotten album of last year "What are some of these songs will not make Pennie squeal in the background to make them somehow impressive ", ranking two out of five.

Rob Crossan of BBC Music compares the album style to that of the Kaiser Chiefs who claim that the band has made "attempts to break the graphic rather than a single, ambitious statement of intent" , will call it "one of the most albums disappointing in 2010 ". NME reacted negatively to the album as well, giving it a half mark on 5/10, claiming that the band had a lack of confidence to push the album.
