Excalibur Hotel and Casino is a hotel and casino located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, in the United States. Owned and operated by MGM Resorts International.
Excalibur, named for King Arthur's mystical sword, used the Medieval theme in several ways. The facade is a castle-style picture. Until 2007, a wizard representing Merlin looked out of a tall tower (being replaced by a figure advertising Dick's Last Resort).
Excalibur is located at the intersection of Tropicana - Las Vegas Boulevard. The hotel is connected by a pedestrian bridge to the neighboring casino in the north (New York-New York, across Tropicana Avenue) and to the east (Tropicana, across the Strip). A free tram connects Excalibur with its sibling MGM Resorts International properties to the south, Luxor and Mandalay Bay.

History
The land where Excalibur sits initially is the proposed site of Xanadu Resort planned in 1975. The tropical themed resort of Asia with 1,730 rooms will be the first mega resort in Las Vegas. This project was never built when the developers could not secure an agreement with the region on the sewer infrastructure such a large project as needed.
Circus Circus Enterprises builds Excalibur which opened on June 19, 1990, as the largest hotel in the world, with more than 4,000 rooms, covering over 70 acres. In 2016 this is the seventh largest hotel (with number of rooms) in Las Vegas, and the eleventh largest hotel in the world. MGM Resorts International purchased the property in 2005.
Excalibur was designed according to a popular "theme resort" strategy among several casino operators during the 1990s, which included a traditional Las Vegas experience coupled with family-oriented elements. However, since 2006, most of the medieval themed sculptures and sights have been removed as part of a four-year renovation and modernization project. In 2010, some themed murals still exist when Excalibur is updated to include more modern and homely elements, including contemporary furnishings and flat-screen plasma TVs in 2,000 renovated guest rooms.
On March 21, 2003, Josh Ford Los Angeles hit the largest Jackpot Megabucks to date worth US $ 39.7 million at Excalibur.

The 100,000 square foot (9,300 m) game area on Excalibur consists of table games and over 1,200 slot machines. In addition to the casino room, the Excalibur Resort includes a renovated swimming pool area, 13,000 square feet (1,200 m) spa and fitness center with eight restaurants and eight pujasera, Chapel at Excalibur, and Octane Lounge & The Lounge with live music on weekends.
Excalibur is home to three permanent performances: performances of all men Thunder From The Bottom, The Australian Bee Gees Show , a tribute to Bee Gees and the medieval themed dinner King Tournament -Raja . Thunder From Down Under moved to Excalibur in July 2001 and has since received recognition as one of the best all-male strip shows in Las Vegas. In 2006, the show room was renamed "Thunder From Down Under Showroom" in honor of the group. The Tournament of Kings is a medieval riding tournament with 12 race horses and 32 cast members in a 925-seat amphitheater called King Arthur's Arena. These events include banquets served by a woman or virgin costume and are meant to be eaten without eating utensils. The tournament of Kings made its debut with the opening of Excalibur in 1990.
Dick's Last Resort restaurant opened at Excalibur in June 2007. Dick's is famous for his unusual dining experience where the server deliberately acts irritating to the guests. The "Taco" employee is considered a Dick mascot and entertains guests with a version of Bellagio's own fountain show using a water dispenser behind the bar.
The Excalibur Food court houses one of the few McDonald's in the world to sell Pepsi rather than Coke until the restaurant closes in early 2016.
The fun dungeon is an arcade from which you can access the Tournament of Kings arena, and also includes the Laser Tag arena.
In popular culture
Excalibur has been featured in several video games and television productions since it opened in 1990. Excalibur itself or a hotel that resembles Excalibur makes appearances in the video game Driver 2 and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas South Park called "It Hits the Fan". Also, season six of Top Chef contestant Jennifer uses Excalibur as an inspiration for one of her meals.
