Clinical Health Promotion is Prevention, which includes elements of health promotion and rehabilitation, taking place in a joint health care system with patients.
The goal is to focus and integrate prevention into patient pathways to reduce disease progression, prevent complications and relapse and maximize coping and quality of life. Clinical health promotion comes from a health care system in which the patient is an active/active part and hence efforts also include elements of health promotion and rehabilitation.
Emphasis is placed on keeping choices and accountability with patients, as well as empathy, feedback and positive expectations for patients. The target audience is the patient and the arena may be primary or secondary care where professionals in interactions with patients engage in clinical health promotion.
