3. How It All Starts: Abandonment In Childhood Can Effect ...
src: relationshipknowledge.com

Abandoned childhood syndrome is a behavioral or psychological condition that is primarily caused by the loss of one or both parents, or sexual harassment. Abandonment may be physical (the parent is absent in the child's life) or emotionally (parents withhold affection, nurturing, or stimulation).

Parents who leave their children, with or without good reason, can cause psychological damage to the child. This damage is reversible, but only with the right help. Abandoned children may also often suffer physical damage from negligence, malnutrition, hunger, and abuse.

The experience of neglect and limit infringement is not at all an indictment of a child's innate good and worth. Instead, they reveal the wrong thinking, false beliefs, and bad behaviors that hurt them. However, his wounds are very deep in their young hearts and minds, and very real pain can still be felt today. The causes of emotional injuries need to be understood and accepted so that they can heal. Until that happens, the pain will stay with them, becoming a driving force in their adult life.

The abandoned child syndrome is not recognized as a mental disorder in any of the medical manuals, such as ICD-10 or DSM-IV, nor is it part of the proposed revision of this manual, DSM-5.

Cause

When children are raised with chronic loss, without the psychological or physical protection they need and certainly deserve, it's most natural for them to internalize the tremendous fear. Not receiving the required psychological or physical protection is the same as a waiver. And living with repetitive ignorance experiences creates a toxic shame. The embarrassment arises from the painful message implied in the neglect: "You do not matter. You're worthless." This is the pain that people have to heal.

For some children especially physical neglect. Physical abandonment occurs when the physical conditions necessary to flourish have been replaced by:

  • Lack of proper supervision
  • Inadequate nutrition and food supplies
  • Insufficient clothing, house, heat, or shelter
  • Physical and/or sexual abuse
  • Verbs and/or emotional harassment (embarrassing, evading)
  • Ignore
